After much needed rest and breakfast of croissants, jelly, cereal, yogurt, juice and coffee, we started off our day by heading up the hills to Èze.
What is in Èze? Parfumerie Fragonard, a wonderful perfume factory. There we learned about fragrances and "noses" and the difference between "parfum", "l'eau de parfum", and "l'eau de toilette" (that's cologne).
Students got to see how perfume is made and were able to smell all the
different scents to recognize which essences were in each perfume.
Oh, and we learned that we had a star among us. Iris is the fragrance of the year!
To arrive at our next destination, we experienced a ride with a view of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Check it out!
Mediterranean Sea (View from Bus)
Stop 2 - Monaco
Grace Kelly's tomb, the changing of the guard, a walk along the cliff side garden and a visit to the Casino at the Monte Carlo made the visit to this principality worth every minute. In less than five hours, we had visited two countries and we would soon be in another.
Stop 3 - San Remo, Italy
We made it to our third country of the day after passing through winding tunnels and admiring the use of landscape as Italians had chosen to build their homes, like Monacans on the side of the steep hills. We'd learned earlier in the day that the positioning of those homes had been strategic for the defense of the towns in times past. In Italy, besides another view of the Mediterranean Sea, we also got a taste of the Italian culture. Everyone got a gelato cone and some purchased two!
Stop 5 - Dinner in Nice, France!
